This committee will work on restructuring the social science curriculum for classes 6 to 12.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has initiated a significant change in the social sciences curriculum of school education. A 35-member committee has been set up under the chairmanship of Michel Danino under the National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC).
This committee will work on restructuring the social science curriculum for classes 6 to 12.
According to the notification issued by NCERT, the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) was released in August. NCF-SE will act as a guide for preparing curriculum and textbooks for school education across the country.
Curriculum area groups under NSTC will develop subject-wise curriculum and teaching-learning materials (TLMs), which will also include textbooks.
Under this, a curriculum area group has been formed for social sciences (history, geography, political science, sociology and psychology). This group, in collaboration with the Economics group, will prepare the social science curriculum and teacher teaching materials for classes six to 12. This group will initially prepare teacher teaching materials in three languages, Hindi, English and Urdu. It will be translated into other languages ββlater.
NCERT has also given this group a deadline for various tasks. According to this, the first draft of books, teacher teaching material, workbooks etc. should be ready by January 20 next year. Similarly, the date of February 10 has been fixed for the final draft. The 'Handbook' for teachers has to be prepared by 25th February.
