The institute commenced the classes for the MBA executive programme last week.

Online class to contain COVID-19 spread

The institute has taken the decision to switch to online classes in order to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. According to Telegraph India, the institute will decide on the duration of the classes depending upon the emerging scenario.

COVID-positive students record mild symptoms

Students who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus have recorded mild symptoms and are in stable condition. The count of the infected has gone up to 28. On Friday, the number was 24. The infected students are being quarantined at the Tata Hall.

No need to vacate campus!

Considering the stable situation, IIM Calcutta dean said that there was no need at this stage to ask the remaining students to vacate the campus. The institute has asked the students to attend classes from their hostels. Infected students can attend classes on their smart devices.

The Calcutta Municipal Corporation officials visited the campus on Saturday. They also enquired about the steps taken by the institute as a precautionary against further spread of the virus. To determine the strain that is at work, the health department has decided to test the samples of the affected students.

A team from the corporation will set up a facility on the campus to test the remaining 58 students.

“If it emerges that the number of infected students is shooting up, then the CMC could set up a containment zone on the campus,” said an official of the civic body.
