#CycloneMandous: Schools, colleges to remain shut in these TN distrcits

Tamil Nadu is gearing up for heavy rainfall as Cyclone Mandous is set to cross near the Chennai coast. As a precautionary measure, the state government has issued an advisory and deployed resources in vulnerable areas.  

In view of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy rain and winds, schools and colleges in around 27 districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Ranipet, Vellore and Tiruvallur, have been shut. Cyclone Mandous is likely to hit the north Tamil Nadu coast around Mamallapuram this midnight, with a wind speed gusting up to 85 kmph.  

A holiday has been declared for all government and private schools in Puducherry and Kariakal on December 9 and 10. The University of Madras, Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University, Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Anna University and the Bharathidasan University have postponed the exams scheduled to be held on December 9. 

People have also been warned not to park vehicles under trees or visit beaches. As many as 5,093 relief centres, including 169 in Chennai, and 121 shelters have been opened across Tamil Nadu.
