WB Governor Ananda Bose asks ISRO for appropriate technology to curb ragging

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has reached out to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to find a possible technological solution for curbing the menace of ragging in colleges and university campuses, said a statement issued by Raj Bhavan.

"CV Ananda Bose, Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal and Chancellor of the universities contacted the Chairman of ISRO to identify appropriate technology to effectively contain and eliminate the menace of ragging in the university campuses," the statement said on Thursday night, as reported by NDTV.

"They are trying to develop an appropriate technology solution using multiple sources such as video analytics, image matching automatic target recognition and remote sensing," added the statement.

Recently, a 17 year old student of Jadavpur University died after falling from the hostel's building. The investigation has revealed that the deceased student was stripped and paraded naked at the hostel on campus. He was found dead on August 9, and his family had alleged that he suffered ragging and sexual harassment. So far, police arrested as many as 13 people in this case.

He was ragged for over an hour and he ran from one room to another to escape bullying. The teen was sexually molested by the arrested people including present and former students of the university, said the police.

"The teen was definitely ragged and sexually molested. He was paraded naked in the corridor after he was forced to undress in room no. 70. We have evidence," said the officer.
