Delhi University will place the proposal for discussing CUCET before the academic council and executive council before its adoption, the VC said.

Delhi University (DU) might implement the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) from the academic year 2022-23 in accordance with the directions given by the higher education regulator, University Grants Commission (UGC), to prepare its implementation for the next academic session. The Central University was looking forward to implementing the CUCET from this year too, however, due to the pandemic this year, it was put on halt.

With sections of teachers raising concerns about implementing a common entrance test for admission, the university officials said that the common entrance test will help in streamlining the admission process and will help in resolving the issue of high cutoffs the university witnesses every year.

While speaking to a media house, DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh had said that the university will place the proposal for discussing CUCET before the academic council and executive council before its adoption. β€œThe university has received the communication from the UGC. We will place this proposal before our statutory bodies, academic council, and executive council, and finalise how DU will adopt CUCET,” said Singh.

The UGC in its letter to Vice-Chancellors of all universities stated that "all central Universities are hereby advised to take appropriate measures accordingly for the Common Entrance Test from the academic session 2022-2023. These tests will be conducted in minimum of 13 languages in which NTA is already conducting JEE and NEET examinations."

The new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 had proposed a CET for all Universities through the NTA that will serve as a premier, expert, autonomous testing organisation to offer high-quality common aptitude test, as well as specialised common subject exams in the sciences, humanities, languages, arts, and vocational subjects in higher education institutions.
