DU plans new engg courses, hostels in 100th year
The university will start BTech in computer science and engineering, electronics and communication and electrical engineering, and undergraduate and postgraduate courses in management and economics in the School of Open Learning (SOL).
Delhi University (DU) will commence its centenary celebrations on its Foundation Day, i.e. May 1, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh has announced. As part of year-long celebrations, the university has planned several events, which include introduction of courses in engineering, building new hostels, setting up of Centenary ASEAN studies centre and launch of a commemorative stamp and coin.
The DU Vice-Chancellor said the university will start technical courses such as BTech in computer science and engineering, electronics and communication and electrical engineering, and undergraduate and postgraduate courses in management and economics in the School of Open Learning (SOL). He said, “The students who could not complete their degrees will be given a centenary chance to complete their studies. For this, they need to register on the university portal.”

“We will launch a commemorative coin and stamp. The year-long activities include the adoption of a centenary village with achievable and tangible social welfare-oriented goals, health awareness checkup and blood donation camps, among others,” he said.
New hostels to cater to needs of outstation students
Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh said, “The university will also start certificate and diploma programmes in job-ready courses. The centenary infrastructure creation has also been planned through new building for the Faculty of Technology and Academic and Administrative Blocks in the Institute of Eminence (IoE) building.” The centenary year will also witness the construction of two new hostels with 800-1000 bed capacity each to cater to the needs of outstation students of the university. As part of the celebration, 100 saplings will be planted at 100 locations and a documentary will be released on the 100 years of the university.
