6G THz Testbed awarded to IIT Patna and Consortium Members

This project was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2023 during the launch of Bharat 6G Vision. This project is one of the projects of national importance most ambitious towards Aatmnirbhar Telecom Technology Bharat.

IIT Patna and Consortium Members won 6G THz Testbed (A project of National Importance).  Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology in presence of Devusinh Chauhan, Minister of State for Communications awarded the Project on "6G: THz Test Bed" to a consortium of SAMEER (an autonomous R & D laboratory under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India), IIT Chennai, IIT Patna, and IIT Guwahati in a program Launch of Bharat 6G Alliance at New Delhi.

The minister further launched 'Bharat 6G Alliance' for better collaboration between government, industry and academia in developing 6G products.

SAMEER being the project lead, Dr.Amit Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Patna is one of the PI of the consortium. The test bed will be developed at SAMEER Kolkata. All consortium members will develop significantly advanced 6G THz Technologies.

To bolster the advancement of 6G technology, the government has allocated a grant of 240.51 crores through the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF).

This initiative aligns with the visionary goals set forth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and represents a significant stride towards positioning India as a leader in 6G technology.

The B6GA will serve as a catalyst for collaboration and knowledge exchange, forging partnerships and synergies with other 6G Global Alliances. This international cooperation will enable India to stay at the forefront of 6G innovation and technology development.

This funding will be directed towards two critical projects: the 6G THz Testbed with Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) & Multiplexing and the Advanced Optical Communication Test Bed.
