The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) hosted the inaugural webinar of its flagship initiative, 2025 – The Year of AI, spotlighting the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence on education, research, innovation, and industry. The event garnered an overwhelming response, with over 1,000 AICTE-approved institutions participating, marking a major milestone in India's AI-driven future.

The webinar showcased esteemed speakers, including Prof. Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman of the Mission Governing Board, National Quantum Mission of India; Shweta Khurana, Senior Director for Asia Pacific and Japan, Government Partnerships and Initiatives at Intel Corporation; and AICTE Chairman, Prof. T.G. Sitharam. The session attracted faculty, researchers, students, and AI enthusiasts from across the country, reflecting AICTE’s dedication to advancing AI integration in technical education.

Initiatives for Year of AI - 2025

Prof. Sitharam outlined AICTE’s major initiatives for the Year of AI – 2025, revealing plans to establish a state-of-the-art AI Factory & Experience Centre at its headquarters to foster innovation and hands-on AI learning. The facility will feature an advanced AI Lab for cutting-edge research and experimentation, alongside a fully equipped XR Lab offering immersive experiences in Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR).

Additionally, he announced that AICTE will organize a series of thematic AI Hackathons aimed at addressing India’s critical challenges using AI, involving students, startups, researchers, and faculty. To mark the culmination of the Year of AI, AICTE plans to host the AI MAHAKUMBH, a landmark AI Expo & Conference, bringing together students, startups, industry leaders, policymakers, and researchers to celebrate India’s AI journey.

AICTE Chairman, Prof. T.G. Sitharam, revealed the council's ambitious AI roadmap for 2025, reinforcing India’s commitment to an AI-driven transformation in education and industry. He announced that more than 1,000 institutions have signed the AI Affirmation Pledge, demonstrating their commitment to incorporating AI into their curricula and research efforts. Prof. Sitharam also highlighted AICTE’s robust AI education ecosystem, with 3,670 approved institutions offering Diploma, UG, PG, and PG certificate programs in AI, Data Science, and Cyber Security.

Prof. Ajai Chowdhry, the Chief Guest, stressed the critical need for India to transition from a service-oriented economy to a product-driven one in order to emerge as a global technology leader. He underscored the pivotal role of startups in this transformation, with AI poised to make its most significant impact on the service sector. He stated: “We have the capability, knowledge, and experience - what we need is high aspiration to create our own ChatGPTs, Large Language Models (LLMs), and other AI-driven innovations.”
