Though the study material is available in English as of now, students can choose between English and Marathi during examinations, said Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering Director GN Kulkarni.

As per a report published in The Times of India, Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCOE), which has started the first engineering course in Marathi language, has received a good response from students as all 68 seats have been filled.  Officials said they are giving lectures in a mixture of English and Marathi. Students have the option of writing answers in examinations in any of the two languages.

Students more comfortable with learning concepts in Marathi

Most of the students have expressed happiness over the course being offered in the Marathi medium. Some students said they were more comfortable with learning concepts in Marathi as compared to English, while others said they did not have any issue with the medium as long as they were getting admission in computer science branch.

PCCOE Director GN Kulkarni said, “All 68 seats have been filled. Teachers are teaching in both Marathi and English. Though the study material is in English as of now, students can choose between English and Marathi during examinations. Faculty members are well versed with the language and have also been trained in the same. We are also thinking of appointing two Marathi language experts in case of any requirement.”

On whether the college will open more divisions in Marathi in different branches of engineering, the Director said he would like to wait for four years for these students to graduate and depending on their placements, think about emulating it in other branches.
