GATE 2025 BSBE M.Tech Admissions

The Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering (BSBE) will conduct M.Tech admissions through the GATE 2025 examination. The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, supports the Master of Technology (M.Tech) program in BSBE.

Registrations for the BSBE M.Tech admissions will be available soon on the official website - iitk.ac.in. 

About the M.Tech Program in BSBE, IIT Kanpur

The M.Tech program comprises four semesters, the last two of which include hands-on training and research. Midway through the program, students can apply to switch to the PhD program at BSBE. The course is designed for students from biology and non-biology backgrounds. The application forms for admissions will be available on the official website. 

Eligibility Criteria

The criteria for GATE BSBE M.Tech admissions 2025 are as follows -

  • Candidates must have a master’s degree in science background (mathematics/physics/ life sciences/ chemistry) or a Bachelor’s degree in technology/engineering (B.Tech/B.E) in any branch.
  • MBBS/B. Pharm / agricultural/veterinary sciences graduates are also eligible to apply. 
  • Applicants must have a minimum CPI of 6.6 in their qualifying degree with a valid GATE 2025 score
  • IIT engineering graduates are not required to provide their GATE scores. However, they must have an overall CGPA of 6.5 and a CGPA of 8.0 during the last two semesters. 
  • Candidates appearing in the final examinations of the qualifying degree are also eligible for BSBE GATE 2025 admissions

Selection Process for GATE 2025 Applicants

  • Shortlisted candidates will be called out for a written and oral test in May 2025. 
  • Screening tests will be conducted to evaluate the candidate’s analytical skills and understanding of the basic concepts of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. 

Financial Assistance Offered

Candidates enrolled through GATE 2025 for M.Tech programs of BSBE will receive financial assistance of INR 8000 per month.

Q:   Can I get admission in IIT Kanpur in BTech if my rank is between 0 and 5000?

A:

The cut off rank in Round 6 for BTech in Computer Science and Engineering is 238 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one can not afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing from round to round, better ranks definitely increases your chances of getting admission in IIT Kanpur - Indian Institute of Technology.

Q:   Can I get admission to PhD courses through the GATE exam?

A:

Yes, Candidates with a valid GATE score can get direct admission to Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Engineering/ Technology/ Science/ Architecture/ Humanities, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies. 

Financial Assistance given for Ph.D. programs (Direct Ph.D. after B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc equivalent with a valid GATE score) is Rs. 37,000 per month for the first two years and Rs. 42,000 per month from the third to the fifth year. 

Q:   Can I get admission to foreign universities through GATE 2025?

A:

Yes, there are few foreign top universities which offer admission based on GATE exam. Top universities in Singapore such as National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Universities in Germany such as RWTH Aachen and Technical University of Munich (TUM) offers admission based on GATE performance. 

Candidates must know that there may be external factors also in the admission criteria such as ILETS, TOFEL. So candidates must contact the university before applying for the admission process.
