A total of 5,970 candidates secured admission to engineering colleges under the 7.5 per cent special reservation for government school students.

Classes of first-year engineering students in Tamil Nadu will begin on October 25, state Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi said. A total of 5,970 candidates secured admission to engineering colleges under the 7.5 per cent special reservation for government school students. The Higher Education Minister said all students admitted under the quota would be accommodated in colleges and the government would bear the entire cost, including tuition fees and hostel fees, of such students. If we found any engineering college collecting fees from students joining under 7.5% reservation, we will cancel their recognition,” Ponmudi said.

The online general counselling will end on October 17, 2021. In the first two rounds of engineering counselling, 10,000 more students joined engineering courses compared to the previous year. “We expect more seats will be filled this year. To fill vacant seats in top colleges after the medical counselling, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) authority will conduct a mop-up session this year,” he said.

The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) has released TNEA 2021 general counselling round 3 tentative seat allotment on October 11. Candidates who have been allotted seats under TNEA 2021 round 3 tentative seat allotment must confirm it today (October 12) by 5 pm.

Anna University to follow 69% quota

Anna University will follow 69 per cent reservation norms for admissions to its MTech courses in biotechnology and computational biology this year, Higher Education Minister said. There would not be 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) in any of the state universities, he said.
