Participants are expected to create an original 2D animated short movie video of maximum of three minutes duration using Synfig Studio, a cross-platform free and open source vector-based 2D animation software. 

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has announced an All India 2D animation hackathon which is organised by the FOSSEE project, in association with the Spoken Tutorial (EduTech/IT Literacy) project, Indian Culture portal, and Bollywood filmmaker Subhash Ghai's Whistling Woods International.  

In this hackathon, participants are expected to create an original 2D animated short movie video of maximum of three minutes duration using Synfig Studio, a cross-platform free and open source vector-based 2D animation software.  

Who can apply? 

Anyone having knowledge of basic graphics, designing and animation can participate. Prior knowledge of using Synfig Studio to create 2D animation and other open source graphics software would be an advantage. This is the second edition of 2D animation hackathon that IIT Bombay is conducting. 

Jataka tales, Panchatantra tales and unsung heroes are the themes for this year’s animation hackathon. Registration is currently open and the last date to apply is February 5, 2023. FOSSEE (Free/Libre Open Source Software for Education) project developed at IIT Bombay promotes the use of Free/Libre Open Source Software in academic institutions, and is funded through the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), Ministry of Education, Government of India.
