To celebrate 25th-year reunion, the batch of 1998 of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay alumni gathered and donated a remarkable sum of Rs 57 crore to their alma mater, setting a new record for the most substantial contribution by a single class. This surpasses the previous record of Rs 41 crore donated by the 1971 class. Over 200 alumni have contributed to this fund, designated for enhancing hostels, establishing a cutting-edge AI lab, and providing need-based scholarships.

IIT Bombay celebrated Alumni Day on December 24, 2023, marking the silver jubilee reunion of the Class of 1998. This yearโ€™s Distinguished Service Award was bestowed on Gajanan Vithal Gandhe. The Chapter Service awardees include Kicha Ganapathy, Deepak Digambar Thite, Amit Gupta and Tarana Gupta.

The contributions from the class of 1998 will be instrumental in supporting essential academic endeavors and molding the research environment at IIT Bombay. These endeavors encompass Project Evergreen, dedicated to sustainable and environmentally conscious hostel facilities; the development of Makerspace labs to cultivate innovation and creativity; and Student Aid programs, such as scholarships, to nurture the ambitions of upcoming generations.

Moreover, the contributions will serve as a significant stride towards IIT Bombay's ambitious vision for 2030. This vision entails positioning the institution among the elite top 50 universities worldwide, cementing a legacy of unparalleled excellence on the global platform. These funds play a crucial role in propelling the university towards this prestigious goal, enhancing its academic standing and global recognition.
