IIT Delhi Partners with IEA to Drive Innovation in Clean Energy Technologies

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the International Energy Agency (IEA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration on energy technology innovation aimed at reducing emissions and driving clean energy transitions. The MoU outlines key areas of cooperation, including policy analysis to promote energy innovation and the exchange of information on energy technology trends, with a particular focus on emerging and developing economies.
The MoU, establishing a framework for cooperation between the IEA and IIT Delhi, was signed at the IEA Headquarters in Paris by IEA Executive Director Dr. Fatih Birol, with IIT Delhi Director Prof. Rangan Banerjee and Deputy Director for Strategy & Planning Prof. Ambuj Sagar participating remotely. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of H.E. Jawed Ashraf, Ambassador of India to the Republic of France and the Principality of Monaco.
Recently, IIT Delhi and the IEA jointly published a report titled Clean Energy Innovation Policies in Emerging and Developing Economies, which explores the economic opportunities and the critical role of policy in advancing the new energy economy in these regions. The report was unveiled at the 15th Clean Energy Ministerial and 9th Mission Innovation Ministerial in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, with participation from experts across industry, international organizations, government, academia, and civil society.
IEA’s Executive Director, Dr. Fatih Birol, said, “The IEA looks forward to working closely with IIT Delhi on some of the most pressing energy challenges facing the world today. The potential for emerging and developing economies in the new energy economy is vast, but the policies, investment and expertise must be tapped if it is to be realised. This MoU will help address some of the existing barriers through knowledge sharing, best practices and tangible actions that can support countries to deploy clean energy technologies and make progress on their climate and energy goals.”
IIT Delhi's Director, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, said, “We are delighted to be partnering with the IEA to work on the clean energy transition. We believe this partnership can help us build capacity to address the climate and sustainability challenge and develop future-ready graduates for society. IEA and IIT Delhi together can enable strategies for developing and emerging economies to manage the transition to net zero.”

Yes, IIT Delhi is a good institute for MSc aspirants. The institute has got a good overall rank from NIRF in the 2023 rankings. It has been ranked at the third spot among top colleges in the country. Moreover, IIT Delhi also provide placements support. As per its 2023 placement report, the median package offered to PG (2-year) candidates was INR 12.50 LPA. Q: How long is BTech in IIT Delhi?
The duration of IIT Delhi BTech courses is four years. The full-time degree programme is divided into eight semesters. During the BTech course duration, the students have to do compulsory foundation courses in the areas of basic sciences, humanities, engineering sciences, and social sciences along with the departmental core and elective courses. Moreover, IIT Delhi offers internship opportunities to UG students, the duration of short-term internships is 1.5 to 2 months and is 6 months for long-term internships.
Apart from this, the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi also offer an integrated BTech and MTech programme. The duration of this dual degree course is five years against the standard duration of both the courses - BTech (four years) and MTech (two years).
