Prof. Bhim Singh from IIT Delhi has been honoured with Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2024 for his work in advancing power electronics for renewable energy sources and e-mobility.

IIT Delhi's Prof. Bhim Singh, SERB National Science Chair and Emeritus Professor was honoured with the Vigyan Shri Award in Engineering Sciences by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Vigyan Shri Awards recognise scientists for their exceptional contributions to the fields of Science and Technology.
A prolific researcher and technology mentor, Prof. Bhim Singh has been honored with the Vigyan Shri Award for his significant contributions to the development of power electronics for renewable energy sources, including e-mobility. His work in applied and translational research has been highly influential in advancing these fields.
His research areas include solar PV grid interface systems, microgrids, power quality monitoring and mitigation, solar PV water pumping systems, improved power quality AC-DC converters, power electronics, electrical machines, drives and electric vehicles.
About Prof. Bhim Singh
Prof. Bhim Singh is also an esteemed alumnus of IIT Delhi. He received his B.E. (Electrical) degree from the University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), India in 1977, and his M. Tech. (Power Apparatus & Systems) and Ph.D. from IIT Delhi in 1979 and 1983, respectively.
He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, at IIT Delhi, in 1990. He has been Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering from July 2014 to August 2016. Prof. Singh was Dean of Academics at IIT Delhi from August 2016 to 2019. He has been serving as a SERB National Science Chair and Emeritus Professor at IIT Delhi since July 2021. Prof. Singh is the Chairman of BoG, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat, since 25th August July 2023.
