In collaboration with EduRade, and incubated within the IIT Guwahati Research Park, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has launched the largest Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO) in India. Spanning over 18 acres, this state-of-the-art facility is equipped to concurrently operate 9 medium-class drones.
The establishment of this RPTO aims to enhance drone technology in India, supporting the ambitious goal set by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to position India as a leading drone hub by 2030. This initiative is a significant step towards realizing the objectives of the 'Namo Drone Didi' program recently launched.
Remote Pilot Training Organisation
The inauguration of the IIT Guwahati RPTO marks a significant step towards revolutionising drone training, with a focus on providing vital skills. The RPTO is set to offer a DGCA-Certified Medium Class Drone Pilot Training Course, designed to elevate the expertise of young individuals in the North East and other parts of India.
It aims to particularly benefit women from agricultural self-help groups (SHGs) identified through the Namo Drone Didi Yojna. Graduates of the course will receive a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India, enabling them to legally fly drones and embark on careers as Certified Drone Pilots.
IIT Guwahati Drone Pilot Training Program
IIT Guwahati is hosting an innovative drone training program tailored specifically for a diverse group of defence personnel. This unique three-month initiative is aimed at Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and other ranks, to enhance the technological capabilities of the armed forces. The training covers a wide range of drone technologies, including piloting, software handling, and practical applications.
Speaking about the launch of India’s largest RPTO at IIT Guwahati, Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Dean PRBR at IIT Guwahati, said, "Since the past three years IIT Guwahati has been dedicating itself to cultivate innovation and excellence in drone technology services, education, empowering organizations and individuals to emerge as leaders and pioneers in this swiftly advancing field."
Speaking about the collaboration, Biswajit Dey, Director of RC Hobbytech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., said, "Another objective of this collaboration is to assist other industries with drone pilots, such as agriculture, disaster management, real estate, logistics, and other such sectors."
