IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Announces Prof Sukumar Mishra as Its New Director, Aims for Global Impact

Professor Sukumar Mishra from Odisha has become the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Dhanbad. His appointment is an important event for IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and the wider academic world, given his extensive experience, excellent reputation, and deep dedication to improving engineering education and research. Prof Mishra, a researcher and skilled administrator, has established a strong reputation in the field of Electrical Engineering. 

About Professor Sukumar Mishra

Prof Mishra has held significant administrative roles, including Dean of Research and External Engagement at IIT Delhi's Abu Dhabi Campus and Associate Dean of R&D. He has also been an active Executive Committee member of the Delhi section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). His research specializes in Power Systems, Power Quality Studies, Renewable Energy, and Smart Grids.

Prof Mishra's extensive industry experience has earned him numerous awards, such as the Young Scientist Award from the Orissa Bigyan Academy (1999), the INSA Medal for Young Scientist (2002), the INAE Young Engineer Award (2002), the INAE Silver Jubilee Young Engineer Award (2012), the Samanta Chandra Shekhar Award (2016), the Bimal Bose Award (2019), and the NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee Award (2019). 

Additionally, he has received the National Mission Innovation Championship Award (2019), the INAE Outstanding Teachers Award (2021), the Innovation Leadership Award (2023), and the Prof. K.L. Chopra Applied Research Award (2023), among others.

Appointments of Directors at IITs 

Earlier, the Union Ministry of Education announced the appointment of new directors for six IITs. Manindra Agrawal, Sukumar Mishra, Avinash Agarwal, Devendra Jalihal, Dhirendra S Katti, and Amit Patra were appointed as directors of IIT Kanpur, IIT Dhanbad, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Goa, and IIT BHU, respectively.
