IIT Madras' students launch India's first electric formula racing car - RF23
RF23 launched by the students of IIT Madras is the result of a one-year-long process in which the team undertook the design, manufacturing and testing.
The students of IIT Madras have today launched India's first electric formula racing car - RF23.
IIT Madras tweet reads, “Team @raftarformula from @iitmadras has unveiled the 'RF23' first electric formula racing car today. It is expected to show significant improvements in speed & lap times compared to earlier Internal Combustion Engine models as the electric drive delivers more power.”
A team of students called the Raftar Formula Racing Team launched the RF23 car today. The student community has auto-enthusiasts from 45 disciplinary streams.
The Raftar team is part of IIT-M's Centre for Innovation effort, a student-led idea launchpad at the institute.
IIT Madras’ electric car RF23 would be among over 30 participants with their own electric cars at the Formula Bharat 2023 racing event in Coimbatore in January next year.
The Chief of the Raftar team, Karthik Karumanchi, a final year mechanical engineering undergraduate student at the institute said, “This is our tenth race car and first electric variant, designed from scratch and built over the last two years. We're very excited about it," as reported by Economic Times.
Raftar team launches one racing car each year for participation in the Formula Student Championships, a Formula-style racing contest conducted across key tracks in the globe.
Centre of Excellence for Road Safety, IIT Madras organised a Consultation Workshop on Standards for Testing Crash Barriers today, November 28, to collate valuable inputs and feedback in process of drafting the standards for testing crash barriers & way forward.
