IIT Madras is aiming to foster a minimum of 100 start-ups across different sectors this year. These ventures will receive nurturing, support, and supervision from IIT Madras Incubation Cell (IITMIC), serving as the institute's central hub for various innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives. IIT Madras to Incubate 100 Start-ups

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is planning to incubate a minimum of 100 start-ups spanning various sectors. Professor V. Kamakoti, the Director of IIT Madras, unveiled the goals for 2024, highlighting the institution's plan to establish a new interdisciplinary sciences school. The institute has initiatives and socially relevant projects for 2024, the Director said while announcing the targets for the year and also added that the new initiatives seek to benefit the nation. 

“We are also looking forward to launching a new school on interdisciplinary sciences. It is very important as today, we are moving towards interdisciplinary education. We also want to close this financial year with the maximum amount of projects,” the director added.

Recognised as one of the top deep-tech start-up ecosystems in India, the IIT Madras Incubation Cell (IITMIC) is the institute’s umbrella body for nurturing, supporting and overseeing various innovation and entrepreneurship projects, an official statement said.

Accomplisments of IIT Madras 

Saying that the institute saw a lot of ambitions realised during 2023, the director added: “In the past year, we took up several important projects including IIT Madras Zanzibar Campus, which became the first-ever IIT to be established overseas, launched a Department of Medical Sciences and Technology, and are aspiring to do many more things in this direction.”

IIT Madras during May 2023 launched a first-of-its-kind department of medical sciences and technology, which will offer a four-year BS programme in medical sciences and engineering. The institute during October 2023 launched a School of Sustainability, which will boost the Institute’s strong tradition of exemplary work in this area.
