The newly launched courses are BTech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, BTech in Engineering Physics, and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computing.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna has launched three new degree programmes at the undergraduate (UG) level – BTech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, BTech in Engineering Physics, and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computing. Admission to all three programmes will be done through JEE Advanced 2021, the results of which were declared on October 15.

The institution has allocated 36 places for admission to Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, 36 for Engineering Physics and 48 for BS in Mathematics and Computer Science. The institute has increased its intake capacity to 547 from last year’s 427 seats, with an additional 10 per cent of excess seats reserved for foreign candidates,” said Rajendra Paramanik, professor-in-charge of public relations, IIT Patna.

The BS in Mathematics and Computing is designed to cater to the present needs in technology and build a strong foundation of the subject in the initial semesters. The curriculum includes many elective courses from science, engineering and humanities disciplines that allow considerable flexibility and academic freedom.

Students are required to complete basic courses in algebra, geometry, number theory, analysis, differential equations, statistics & probability, and graph theory. Apart from basic courses, many advanced courses in these subjects together with theoretical computer science and information technology have been included.

The BTech programme in AI and Data Science will equip students to handle large volumes of data and develop AI-focused algorithms. However, the Engineering Physics course is a blend of engineering, physics and mathematics, while Mathematics and Computing Discipline is designed by combining mathematical and analytical components.
