IIT Seat Matrix 2024 OUT: 48,248 JEE Advanced Qualifiers to Compete for 17,740 Seats
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has released the seat matrix for the 2024-25 session, revealing an increase of 355 seats in the IITs compared to the previous year. The total seat count across IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs stands at 59,917, marking a rise of 2765 seats from the preceding year.
JoSAA has released the seat distribution for IITs, NITs, and IIITs. In 2024, a total of 17,740 seats, including Female Supernumerary seats, will be available across 23 IITs. With 48,248 candidates qualifying for IIT admissions through JEE Advanced 2024, the number of aspirants exceeds the total IIT seats by nearly threefold. Notably, there's an increase of 355 seats compared to last year, with this year's total reaching 17,740, while last year's stood at 17,385.
Among the 23 Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Kharagpur, IIT BHU, IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee, and IIT Kanpur boast the highest number of seats. Leading the count is IIT Kharagpur offering 1,899 seats, followed by IIT BHU with 1,589 seats, IIT Bombay with 1,368 seats, IIT Roorkee with 1,353 seats, and IIT Kanpur with 1,210 seats.

IITs had 45 seats vacant seats last year
Last year, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process concluded with 17,340 candidates securing seats across the 23 Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), including 3,422 female candidates. This left 45 seats vacant out of the total 17,385 available seats, marking the first occurrence of vacancies in the past five years.
