To engage its students in creative projects to enhance their critical skills, Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has launched 'Project Isaac'. It is meant to augment their critical skills while being restricted to their rooms or homes because of coronavirus outbreak. The task is inspired by Sir Isaac Newton, who 350 years ago was likewise sent home by Trinity College, Cambridge, due to the Great Plague of London in 1665. Some people call it the year of wonders. According to a statement from the institute, at that point of time, Newton was a 22-year-old college student and developed some of his most thoughtful discoveries, including early calculus along with his theories of optics and gravity.

'Project Isaac' by IIT Gandhinagar endeavours to inspire IITGN students to dream aspiringly to accomplish amazing and ambitious things. They are also encouraged to cultivate new skills in coding, music, creative expression, writing, painting, and so on. For professional success, these are critical skills. Almost 40 percent of IITGN students are already joining in several activities, which are completely voluntary.

According to Prof Sudhir K Jain, Director of IITGN, over 40 percent of the student body jumped into these voluntary projects right out of the gate and the proportion is likely to grow. As a part of Project Isaac, the Institute has brought in various contests with daily prizes and rewards for IITGN students around coding, creative expression, leadership, and writing. The Project Isaac Showcase will conclude in a huge talent contest once students come back to campus to display their creative work-products developed during this period.
