JEE Advanced 3rd Attempt Removed: Know Implications on IIT Aspirants
JAB explained their decision to reverse the JEE Advanced attempt limit from three to two within a few days by stating that - "This has been done after considering various competing requirements in the meeting of JAB held on November 15, 2024. This has resulted in restoring the earlier eligibility criteria followed since 2013. All other eligibility criteria remain the same." Read below to know what this might imply.
The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to bring back the original policy for the JEE Advanced exam by removing the option for a third attempt. This change aims to keep the exam competitive and maintain its high standards. The news has sparked various reactions from students and educators, as it significantly alters the preparation plans for many aspiring engineers.
Impact
On November 5, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur unveiled an update on the JEE Advanced 2025 website, announcing that candidates would have the opportunity for three attempts in three consecutive years to take the JEE Advanced examination. This announcement initially generated significant enthusiasm among a substantial segment of the student population, as it presented an additional chance to qualify for admission into prestigious IITs. However, on November 18, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) took a U-turn on the attempt limit decision, leading to disappointment among the same group of aspirants who had hoped for an extra attempt at JEE Advanced.
The candidates who took JEE Advanced in the years 2023 and 2024 were relying on the additional attempt to improve their scores and secure a seat in one of the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Candidates who could not crack JEE Advanced in the years 2023 and 2024 could have attempted JEE Advanced 2025 with three attempts in three consecutive years. But now such candidates cannot attempt JEE Advanced 2025 with the decision being reversed.
Also, the candidates who will take JEE Advanced for the first time in 2025 now face increased pressure to perform well within their first two attempts. This change could lead to heightened stress levels and a more intense preparation period for students.
Other JEE Advanced Eligibility
Apart from the JEE Advanced 2025 attempt limit, other eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025 remain unchanged. Candidates must have qualified the JEE Main exam and be among the top 2,50,000 rank holders. They should also have passed their Class 12 examination or equivalent in the previous year or the current year. Furthermore, there are age restrictions. For the general category, candidates need to be born on or after October 1, 2000, with a five-year relaxation for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
The decision to revert to the two-attempt policy underscores the importance of early and effective preparation for JEE aspirants. Students are encouraged to focus on their studies from an early stage to maximise their chances of success within the limited attempts. As the JEE Advanced 2025 eligibility criteria and attempt limit become a focal point for students and educators alike, it is crucial to stay informed and adapt to these changes to achieve the best possible outcomes.
