JEE Main 2023 topper Apurva Samota wants to pursue CS from IIT Bombay

JEE Main 2023 topper Apruva Samota from Udaipur talks to Shiksha.com about his JEE Main 2023 preparation strategy and his mantra of success. 

Apruva Samota from Udaipur, Rajasthan, is among the 20 candidates who have secured 100 percentile in JEE Main Session 1 2023. Apruva, a student of MDS School, Udaipur, has scored a total of 285 out of 300 marks in the JEE Main 2023 Session 1 exam.  

During an interaction with Shiksha.com, Apruva said he was confident about getting good marks in JEE Main 2023 Session 1, but topping the exam came as a surprise. He is a student of The Radiant Academy Udaipur and gives credit of his stellar success to the coaching institute. His father is a serviceman and mother teaches at a government school. He loves to play cricket and badminton in leisure time. He wants to pursue computer science engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.

Q. Congratulations on your performance in JEE Main 2023! What was your reaction upon knowing your score?

A. I expected 99.9 percentile, but the top JEE Main rank was a pleasant surprise. I scored a total of 285 out of 300 marks in the JEE Main 2023 Session 1 exam.

Q. Why do you want to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in?

A. I have been interested in programming since childhood. I want to pursue computer science engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.

Q. What was your JEE Main 2023 preparation strategy?

A. One has to prepare a strategy and study accordingly. I have been preparing for JEE Main exam since Class 11. Apart from coaching, I also devoted time to self-study. My JEE Main syllabus was finished late due to which I could not take much mock tests. I mainly focused on previous year questions paper.

Q. Which subject did you focus on more and why?

A. My maths has been strong and I have always found chemistry easy. I mainly focused on physics as I was weak in it. I mostly studied chemistry from NCERT books and for physics and mathematics, I went through study materials of coaching.

Q. Which books did you refer to while preparing for JEE Main 2023?

A. I did not refer to many books. I mainly studied from the coaching material given to me by my coaching institute. Apart from that, I consulted IE Irodov, HC Verma and Pathfinder books for physics, while for mathematics, I relied on Black Book and A Das Gupta. I studied NCERT books for chemistry.

Q. Are you planning to appear for any other engineering exam?

A. My main focus is now on clearing JEE Advanced 2023 and hopefully, get into one of the top IITs. I am also planning to take BITSAT 2023. BITSAT 2023 will be held from May 22 to 26 (Session 1) and June 18 to 22 (Session 2). I am currently preparing for Class 12 board exams, which are scheduled to take place from February 15, 2023.

Q. What are your future plans?

A. I want to score good marks in JEE Advanced 2023 so that I can opt for BTech in computer science at IIT Bombay.

Q. What message do you have for future JEE aspirants?

A. Stay focused on their studies without getting distracted. JEE Main exam requires lot of consistent efforts and focus. It is also important to have a strong peer group as group studies are very useful at times. Find a peer group that egg you on to do your best throughout.
