KEAM has been held as an offline exam. Until 2023, traditional pen and paper mode was used by the candidates to appear for this state-level entrance exam. Candidates record answers to multiple-choice questions in an Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet. KEAM has two papers, paper 1 is physics & chemistry and paper 2 is mathematics. In the exam, there are MCQ-based questions and each question has 5 options of which 1 is correct. Each correct answer carries 4 marks and a wrong answer has a negative marking of 1 mark.
KEAM consistently draws a large number of aspiring students each year. In 2023, over 1.23 lakh candidates took the exam, marking a slight increase from the 1.22 lakh who participated in 2022. This demonstrates a steady rise in interest in pursuing higher education in engineering, architecture, and medicine through the KEAM pathway.
