NIRF Rankings 2021: IIT Madras best Institute in India; 7 IITs dominate Overall Ranking
The Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru has topped the University list, IIM Ahmedabad best in Management, AIIMS Delhi number one medical college.
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has been ranked as the best institution in the country, followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru and IIT Bombay at second and third position. This year a new category of ranking has been introduced, the “Research” category, in which IISc Bengaluru has been ranked first.
Among the Engineering category, IIT Madras has been ranked as the best in the country, followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi.
The India Rankings 2021 is more or less similar to NIRF 2020 Rankings with the same institutions retaining their previous year’s ranking. Among the colleges, Delhi University’s Miranda House College has consecutively retained the top position fourth year in a row. While among the dental colleges, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Delhi has been replaced by Manipal College of Dental Sciences Udupi by securing the first position in the “Dental” category.
In the Law category, the National Law School of India University, Bangalore has been ranked as the best law institute in the country.
NIRF 2021: 'More private institutions should participate'
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan while releasing the “India Rankings 2021” said: “The number of participating institutions in the NIRF has increased and this year we have 6000 institutions which show acceptance of India Rankings among institutions.” He also urged more private institution to participate in the NIRF Rankings.
The Minister released the sixth edition of India Rankings 2021 virtually in 11 categories. Talking of international Rankings, Pradhan said that rankings done by the western world is more commercialized.
In 2021, in addition to ten rankings, “Research” has been introduced for the first time bringing the total tally to 11 categories.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister pitching for regional ranking of the institution said: “Going forward can we think of regional ranking, provincial rankings looking at the diversity of our country.”
The ranking framework evaluates institutions on five broad generic groups of parameters, i.e. Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR). Ranks are assigned based on the total sum of marks assigned for each of these five broad groups of parameters.
