The Department of Chemical Engineering at NIT Tiruchirappalli inaugurated a six-day AICTE ATAL online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Recent Advances in Process Modelling, Simulation, and Process Control." Designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of faculty members, the program has drawn over 140 participants from 14 states across India. Featuring 13 technical sessions, the FDP is led by 10 distinguished Indian speakers and 2 international experts from Canada and Spain.

Prof. (Dr.) T. K. Radhakrishnan, Coordinator of the Programme from the Department of Chemical Engineering, NIT Trichy, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the real-world relevance of the FDP. He outlined the theme, focusing on the significance of chemical process modelling and control in process industries. These topics are crucial for representing and analyzing processes, optimizing operations, reducing costs, and enhancing environmental sustainability.

Prof. (Dr.) G. Aghila, Director of NIT Trichy, emphasised the significance of government initiatives in fostering research and innovation within educational institutions. She highlighted the transformative role of artificial intelligence in driving process automation by 2047 and encouraged participants to engage actively in each session, asking questions promptly. Prof. Aghila assured that the experts and keynote speakers would address their queries and enrich their research pursuits. She also underscored the importance of sustainable development through smart systems, aligning with the program's forward-looking focus.

The inaugural event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. K. Sankar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, who expressed gratitude to the AICTE Training and Learning Academy (ATAL) for funding the FDP.
