President to launch 20 engg books in Odia language for 1st-year courses today
Odia is the third Indian language in which the engineering course material has been translated after Hindi and Tamil.
President of India Droupadi Murmu will launch 20 engineering books that have been translated into Odia for BTech and diploma engineering courses at Jaydev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar today (November 11, 2022).
Translation work began in November 2021
The technical education department had signed an agreement with the Institute of Odia Studies and Research to translate the books for the first-year students (nine for degree and 11 for diploma) in Odia language for the 2022-23 academic year. The translation work began in November 2021. Subrat Prusty, Member secretary of Institute of Odia Studies and Research, said 64 language experts, translators and reviewers translated the first-year engineering books into Odia. Odia is the third Indian language in which the engineering course material has been translated after Hindi and Tamil.
Initially, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, IIT Bhubaneswar and Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) were given the task of translating books into Odia language, but all three institutions refused to do it. Following this, an agreement was signed between the technical department and Institute of Odia Studies and Research to implement the work.
88 engg books being translated to Odia for second-year students
Prusty said they had started translating second year books. He said, “We have already started work on second year books. A total of 88 books -- 46 of diploma and 42 of degree -- will be translated. Besides, we will also translate 88 books for the third year course too.”
