Qualifying JEE Main Cutoff for JEE Advanced 2024 Not Enough; 75% in Class 12 Mandatory for IIT Admission
NTA is set to announce the JEE Main 2024 results shortly. Reports indicate a staggering registration count of over 13 lakh for both the April and January sessions combined. However, only 2.5 lakh candidates will advance to the JEE Advanced examination. Simply meeting the JEE Main 2024 cutoff for JEE Advanced won't assure admission to IITs. Additional criteria will determine eligibility, ensuring a rigorous selection process for coveted IIT seats. Read all about it inside.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will soon declare the results of JEE Main Session 2, which will include the JEE Main cutoff percentile for JEE Advanced 2024. The results of JEE Mains session 2 are eagerly awaited as they will determine the fate of many aspiring students hoping to pursue engineering at the prestigious IITs this year. 75% Marks in Class 12 Mandatory for IIT Admission
To be eligible for admission to IITs according to the criteria outlined by IIT Madras on the official JEE Advanced 2024 website, candidates must meet one of the following two conditions:
Condition 1: Candidates need to have cleared their Class XII (or equivalent) board examination with a minimum of five subjects, securing at least 75% aggregate marks. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the minimum aggregate marks required are 65%.
Or,
Condition 2: Candidates should have passed the Class XII (or equivalent) board examination with a minimum of five subjects and fall within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination category-wise. This percentile calculation will encompass all the required subjects within a single academic year. Hence, candidates opting for improvement in board examinations can either aim for 75% aggregate marks (65% for SC, ST, and PwD) in one or more subjects after improvement, or they can strive to be within the top 20 percentile by improving grades in all subjects.
The subjects that are considered for calculating the aggregate marks and the cut-off marks for fulfilling the top 20 percentile criterion are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, a language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be considered), and any subject other than the aforementioned four subjects (the subject with the highest marks will be considered).
Additionally, candidates must adhere to the attempt limit for JEE Advanced 2024. They are allowed a maximum of two attempts in two consecutive years. For instance, a candidate who appeared for JEE Advanced in 2023 is eligible to appear again in 2024. However, a candidate who took the exam in 2022 is ineligible to sit for JEE Advanced 2024.
