JEE Advanced aspirants have to wait for another day as the JEE Advanced attempt limit case hearing scheduled for today, January 6, has been postponed. The Supreme Court of India is set to hear the case concerning the JEE Advanced attempt limit on January 7, 2025. The petition, filed by 22 students challenging the reduction of the attempt limit from three to two, was originally scheduled for today. However, due to the unavailability of SG Tushar Mehta, who had commitments in another court, the hearing has been postponed to tomorrow. The case was initially scheduled for a hearing on December 20, 2024, which was then postponed to today, January 6.

JEE Advanced 2025 exam will be held on May 18 and the registration will start on April 23. A large group of students are eagerly waiting for the Supreme Court verdict on the JEE Advanced attempt limit as it will decide whether or not they can appear for the exam this year. This group of students includes the candidates who attempted JEE Advanced in 2023 and want to appear for the exam again in 2025.

The JAB, responsible for overseeing the JEE Advanced admissions to the esteemed Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), announced a policy change on November 5, 2024, increasing the number of attempts to three. However, only days later, on November 18, 2024, the authority reversed this decision and reinstated the previous limit of two attempts per candidate.

JAB made the following announcement on November 18, 2024:

"The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to restore the earlier eligibility criterion used in previous years pertaining to number of attempts in JEE (Advanced), in supersession of the criterion mentioned in Press Release dated November 05, 2024. This has been done after considering various competing requirements in the meeting of JAB held on November 15, 2024. This has resulted in restoring the earlier eligibility criteria followed since 2013. All other eligibility criteria remain same.
