Five depts of Dumka Medical College have no faculty: NMC Inspector

A National Medical Council (NMC) inspector has found that five departments of Dumka Medical College have no faculty.

Dumka Medical College is also known as Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH) has received the National Medical Council's (NMC) nod for admission to 100 MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) seats for the academic year 2021-22 at the beginning of October this year after it had submitted an affidavit stating that it will work on all the issues within the given timeframe.

Now, the latest is, an NMC inspector named Dr Ramesh BH has conducted a two-day inspection of the college and found deficiencies in the college's teaching faculty numbers. As per the inspector, as many as five departments of the college do not have a single faculty member. These five departments are Anaesthesia, Skin, Radiology, Pharmacology, and Biochemistry. Moreover, other departments have an acute crisis of teaching faculties.

Dr Arun Kumar, the principal in charge of Dumka Medical College told TOI that this inspection would not affect the ongoing admission for the current academic year as the NMC has given the nod based on the college's assurances. However, if the shortages in faculty members are not addressed on time, the lacunae can hurt the college's prospects in the near future."

"The PJMCH can continue to run the MBBS course for next academic sessions if at least posting of faculties are ensured in at least those departments where there is no one now," he added.
