PwBD candidates seeking admission to Ph.D. programs will now receive a substantial 75% concession in total fees

At the 1269th meeting of the University of Delhi Executive Council (EC) held on Friday, March 08, significant decisions were made by passing of Delhi University's budget amounting to Rs 1717.45 crore for the financial year 2024-2025.

In a move toward inclusivity and support for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), the EC approved a commendable provision. PwBD candidates seeking admission to Ph.D. programs will now receive a substantial 75% concession in total fees, a step towards fostering greater accessibility and opportunities in higher education.

Delving into the budget allocation, Rs 553.95 crore has been earmarked for salaries, with provisions of Rs 307.32 crore for regular faculty, Rs 123.68 crore for regular non-faculty, and Rs 122.95 crore for other benefits like leave encashment and medical reimbursement. Additionally, Rs 935.26 crore has been allocated for academic and non-academic vacant posts.

Under recurring expenses, a total estimate of Rs 627.31 crore has been allotted for pensions, non-salary items, and fellowship programs, reflecting the university's commitment to both its current and retired staff. Further, Rs 154.88 crore has been dedicated to infrastructure development, including buildings, equipment, and campus amenities, underscoring the university's focus on enhancing its physical assets.

In a move to support students facing challenges in completing their degree programs, the EC announced a provision for special moderation. Students with one paper left to complete their course will now receive a special moderation of up to 10 marks, offering them a pathway to degree completion even in adverse circumstances. This decision aligns with the university's commitment to student welfare and academic excellence.
