They will focus on scholarly research and academic programs that integrate traditional knowledge with modern educational frameworks.

In a significant move to integrate traditional Indian knowledge systems with modern academic pursuits, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has established three new centres. These centres will play a crucial role in implementing the vision and mission of "Vikasit Bharat," aiming to harmonize tradition with modernity and ensure continuity amidst change.

The Executive Council of JNU, in its meeting held on May 29, 2024, approved the recommendation of a committee formed to explore and implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and integrate Indian Knowledge Systems within the university. This decision led to the establishment of the following centres within the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies:

Centre for Hindu Studies

Centre for Buddhist Studies

Centre for Jain Studies

These centres are envisioned to bridge the gap between ancient traditions and contemporary realities, fostering a holistic understanding of India's rich cultural heritage. They will focus on scholarly research and academic programs that integrate traditional knowledge with modern educational frameworks.

JNU Vice-Chancellor remarked, "This initiative takes us on the path of integrating tradition with modernity, continuity with change, realm with region, and myth with reality. It aligns with our broader objective of nurturing a Vikasit Bharat."

As per a notification issued by the JNU Administration, the establishment of these centres has been communicated to all relevant departments and officials within the university, ensuring a coordinated effort towards their successful implementation. This development marks a significant step forward in JNU's commitment to promoting and preserving India's diverse and profound knowledge systems, in line with the NEP 2020's vision.
