Expressing their satisfaction with the outcome, JNUSU released a statement congratulating the entire student community for their unity, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to the cause of union elections.

In a significant turn of events at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), the administration has bowed to the demands put forth by the student body after facing relentless pressure and a looming strike threat.

After a united and determined struggle led by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU), along with various progressive organizations and the wider student community, the Dean of Students (DoS) has been compelled to uphold the mandate of the University General Body Meeting (UGBM) held on February 12th, 2024.

In a notification issued by the administration, Aishe Ghosh and Md. Danish, President and Joint Secretary of JNUSU respectively, have been authorized to convene school-level General Body Meetings (GBMs) for the formation of an Independent Student Election Committee.

Expressing their satisfaction with the outcome, JNUSU released a statement congratulating the entire student community for their unity, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to the cause of union elections.

The recent developments come in the wake of mounting frustration among students over alleged administrative delays in issuing authorization letters for the conduct of GBMs, despite unanimous resolutions passed during the UGBM and subsequent submissions to the DoS.

A coalition of student organizations, including AIDSO, AISA, AISF, BAPSA, BASO, COLLECTIVE, CRJD, CRLD, Disha, DSF, Fraternity, JNUTSA, NSUI, PSA, Reservation Club, SCS, and SFI, had issued a stern ultimatum to the administration, setting a 24-hour deadline for compliance with their demands. Failure to meet this deadline would have resulted in a complete university strike scheduled for February 19th, 2024.
