JNUTA has claimed that the Vice-Chancellor did not allow people to raise apprehensions concerning the adoption of CUCET

The decision to go for the Central University Common Entrance Examination (CUCET) from the academic session 2022-23 has been condemned by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association (JNUTA).

The teachers association has expressed their discontent in the manner of decision as taken by the ‘caretaker’ Vice-Chancellor. JNUTA has alleged that the VC selectively orchestrated the discussion on the CUCET which was sent as an additional agenda item on Jan 10, 2022, by stating that decision on the matter had already been taken in the 157th meeting of the academic council.

JNUTA has condemned the decision and has termed it as ‘Sham’ adoption of CUCET by JNU VC by continuing the brazen display of his alleged authoritarian functioning. “The Caretaker Vice-Chancellor, Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar has once again bulldozed his dictate, making JNU part of the Central University Common Entrance Examination (CUCET), as a decision of the 159th Academic Council held online on January 12, 2022. The Vice-Chancellor selectively orchestrated the discussion on the CUCET...This however is not true,” JNUTA alleged.

It has been claimed that the Academic Council have reported that there was no discussion on CUCET during the 157th AC meeting. JNUTA in a press statement stated: “More importantly, when the additional agenda was sent on Jan 10, 2022, 111 faculty members submitted their opinion requesting the Academic Council to refer the agenda item for discussion at the School (BOS) and Centre (Faculty Committee) for further deliberations.”

It has also been alleged that the Vice-Chancellor did not allow people to raise apprehensions with respect to the adoption of CUCET. “Many faculty members were not even allowed to speak despite their raised hands. Showing no respect even to the members appointed from outside the University in the Academic Council, the Caretaker VC abruptly muted an honourable member when he said that he did not like the way he stopped people from speaking by muting their mics,” It has alleged.

JNUTA through its statement has strongly condemned the “authoritarian behaviour of the Caretaker VC.”
