The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has approved a proposal to allow students to submit their M.Phil, M.Tech dissertations and PhD thesis online, owing to the coronavirus pandemic condition in the country, due to which the varsity has been kept closed since mid-March as a precautionary step to prevent further spread of the virus. The proposal was approved at the 286th Executive Council meeting of the University.
“JNU will be taking the lead in India to launch this novel process of dissertation and thesis submission through the digital mode. This will facilitate a timely, hassle-free and very convenient process of submission of M.Phil dissertations, M.Tech dissertations and PhD thesis for evaluation by the research scholars of the university,” the varsity said in a statement. JNU has already put in place an online thesis-tracking system. To help the eligible students ready with their dissertation/thesis to submit it online, the varsity has also released step by step procedures too.
“The processing of ‘No Dues Clearance’ has also been made online for this purpose and the same will be processed by the School/Centre/Special Centre on receipt of a request from the student,” the varsity stated in the circular. The flow chart of processing ‘No Dues Clearances’ with concerned Sections/ Branches have also been released by the varsity. All the official requirements, such as a plagiarism check of the draft dissertations and thesis and payment of fees will be done digitally, JNU said in a statement. JNU Vice-Chancellor Professor M Jagadesh Kumar said the university has streamlined many procedures by adopting digital technologies over the last four years and more such reforms are in the offing.
“If JNU has to become one of the top universities in the world, in addition to creating a good research infrastructure, it is also impo rtant to create an enabling ecosystem in the university by introducing efficient administrative and academic procedures,” he said.
