NIRF 2023: Delhi emerges Best with 23 universities, colleges among top 10 across categories

Jamia Millia Islamia, IIT Delhi, AIIMS, JNU, Miranda House, Hindu College, Jamia Hamdard, NLU Delhi and Indian Agricultural Research Institute have secured position among top 10 in their respective categories.

The national capital of Delhi consolidating its position as the knowledge capital of the country has once again emerged as the seat of knowledge as depicted in the recently announced National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF), India Rankings 2023. 23 universities and colleges located in Delhi have been ranked among top 10 across 13 categories of NIRF Rankings 2023.

Jamia Millia Islamia university and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi are the two institutions which have secured potion among top 10 in several categories like University, Engineering, Dental, Management and so on. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, also known as AIIMS New Delhi has also improved its position in different categories, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Hamdard, National Law University Delhi and Indian Agricultural Research Institute are the other institutions among top in their respective categories.

Delhi University, though it could not break into the top 10 in any of the categories but has improved its rank and this year it has been ranked 11 in Universities. However, five of its affiliated colleges have been ranked among the top 10 colleges in the country with Miranda House, Hindu Colleges getting first and second rank.

Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI)t has once again secured 3rd rank among universities NIRF-2023 Rankings. Expressing her delight on the achievement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar said, โ€œI am very happy that JMI once again figures among top 3 universities of the country. We have been constantly on our mettle making efforts to improve the quality of teaching, learning and research in the university. In NIRF rankings, we have progressed from 83rd rank in 2016 to 3rd rank in 2022 and we have retained it this year too. I hope that in coming years, the university will further improve its performance on all parameters.โ€

She added that this remarkable achievement was possible because of the relevant, focused and meticulous research of highest quality and teaching by the dedicated & devoted faculty members of the university, and the hard work put in by the non-teaching staff of the university also.

The Vice Chancellor also attributed the achievement to the improved perception about the university with regard to teaching, placements, research, etc. The university has become one of the most sought after institutions by the students, and the increase in the number of applications is a testimony to it. โ€œWe hope to do for better in the coming yearsโ€, said the Vice Chancellor.

IIT Delhi

In the overall category of the NIRF-India Rankings 2023, which were released by Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for Education and External Affairs, Government of India, IIT Delhi has featured among the top three educational institutions in the country. In this category, the Institute has improved its last yearsโ€™ fourth rank by one position.

In the Engineering category, IIT Delhi has been ranked as the second-best institute in the country for the fifth consecutive year.

In the Research category, IIT Delhi has featured among the top three institutions in the country. In the Management category, the Institute has been placed among the top five institutions.

Speaking of the NIRF India Rankings 2023, Prof P.V. Rao, Dean, Planning, and Head Rankings Cell, IIT Delhi, said: โ€œIIT Delhi has been consistently doing exceedingly well in the NIRF rankings. It has retained its 2nd rank in the Engineering category consecutively for the last five years. This year, the institute has improved its ranking in the overall category from its earlier rank of four to three. In the research category also, the institute is in the top three.โ€

He added that the research contributions made by IIT Delhi faculty and researchers have played a key role in the rankings of the institute. IIT Delhi has also been consistently doing very well in terms of innovative teaching methodology. The institute has built a research ecosystem so that faculty and students can excel in research. The start-up and innovative culture on campus put our students ahead of their peers.

Delhi University

This time DU has secured 11th position in the university list, whereas last year it was at 13th position. Along with this, DU's Miranda House and the Hindu College have bagged the first and the second spot respectively, in the category of Colleges.

The other colleges among top 10 from DU are, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm College, Lady Shri Ram College for Women Delhi and Kirori Mal College. Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University congratulated all the stakeholders for this achievement and said that it is the result of teamwork and hard work.

AIIMS New Delhi

In the NIRF Ranking 2023 the premier medical college of India, AIIMS New Delhi, is at the topmost position again for the sixth time in the medical category. The institute has also been ranked sixth in the overall category with a score of 72.14. In Medicine it is followed by Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).

NLU Delhi

The National Law University Delhi for the 6th time in a row has been ranked No. 2 in India in the NIRF rankings 2023, in the Law Category.

On his instituteโ€™s achievement, Professor (Dr.) G.S. Bajpai Vice Chancellor, NLU Delhi said: โ€œI am extremely glad to see NLU Delhi as one of the top institutions in the country in the law category. Usually, achieving success is hard but maintaining it is harder. But the fact that NLU Delhi has maintained its rank for the 6th time in a row shows that NLU Delhi is truly deserving of the position and I am confident that with the collective talent and hard-work of my students, faculty & staff, we will soon reach rank No. 1 as well.โ€

The NLSIU Bengaluru has retained its No. 1 ranking for law institutions in 2023 for the 6th year in a row. The institute received 100 score in perception. It has scored 79.09 in Teaching, Learning & Resources; in Research & Professional Practice โ€“ 71.85; Graduation Outcome โ€“ 82.99 and in Outreach & Inclusivity โ€“ 73.58.

NLSIU is closely followed by National Law University, Delhi with Nalsar University of Law at third, The West Bengal National University of Juridicial Sciences at fourth and Jamia Millia Islamia at fifth.

Jawaharlal Nehru University

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi has also retained its second place among universities with the Indian Institute of Science being ranked number one. JNU VC Prof Santishree D Pandit congratulates all the Faculty, students and staff. She said: โ€œWe have done so well on Inclusiveness and Empathy as it empowers the marginalized.โ€
