The students Federation of India has accused Government of Divisive Tactics and Discrimination Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

In a resounding denunciation of the central government's recent notification regarding the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Students Federation of India (SFI) at Jamia Millia Islamia has voiced its strong opposition, characterizing the move as divisive and discriminatory.

The SFI, representing the student community at Jamia Millia Islamia, has criticized the timing of the government's notification, coinciding with the announcement of Lok Sabha elections. They have accused the government of deliberately attempting to sow discord among the populace and incite communal sentiments.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the notification regarding the CAA just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, drawing sharp criticism from SFI. They argue that this move undermines the fundamental principles of the Indian Constitution and seeks to stratify Indian citizens based on religion, thereby violating the principle of equality.

The contentious Citizenship Amendment Act, passed in December 2019, aims to grant citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014. SFI has expressed concern over the exclusion of Muslims under this law, labeling it as a blatant violation of the Constitution and an affront to India's secular tradition.

Furthermore, SFI has accused the government of pursuing a Hindutva communal agenda by denying citizenship to Muslims while granting it to non-Muslim migrants. They argue that this selective approach not only undermines the secular fabric of the nation but also perpetuates discrimination against Muslim minorities.

In their statement, SFI at Jamia Millia Islamia strongly opposes the Citizenship Amendment Act, condemning it as a tool to treat Muslim minorities as second-class citizens. They have called for widespread opposition to the implementation of the CAA and criticized the government for disregarding public protests and criticism in favor of advancing its communal agenda.

As debates surrounding the CAA continue to stir controversy and dissent, the stance taken by SFI reflects the growing discontent and concerns among student communities regarding the government's handling of the issue and its implications for the nation's secular ethos.
