Telangana State to Conduct Separate Entrance Test for PG Admission; Releases CPGET 2024 Application Form
Other Than Telangana, states such as Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have not opted for CUET stating it is not in favour of state board students.
Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) has released the Common Post Graduate Entrance Test (CPGET) 2024 notification on the official website. The authorities will conduct the CPGET 2024 exam to fill 47,211 seats in postgraduate and 5-year integrated programmes in the state. TSCHE has stated that CPGET is more suitable for state board students as it will give a level playing field to students, unlike CUET.
"Not just Telangana, states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka will also conduct separate entrance tests for postgraduate admission, Says TSCHE Chairman R Limbadri, as reported by TOI.
State Entrance Test Provides Equal Opportunity to the State Board PG Students
TSCHE Chairman highlights that CUET does not offer a level playing field to the state board students as the CUET syllabus is based on the central university curriculum.
He further added that approximately 80% of students are from state universities and lack of uniform curriculum and academic calendar will negatively impact the future of state board students.
Consequently, student organisations from Telangana State opposed the implementation of CUET PG as it will make things difficult for students, prominently for students from remote areas.
Further, the student union pointed out that the CUET application fee is approximately INR 2,000 while the state entrance exam application fee is between INR 450 to INR 800. Consequently, because of all the above-mentioned factors, only 20,519 PG seats were filled out during the last academic year.
