The programme was hosted to provide a space for the students of IIT Bombay to speak on their personal experiences, concerns and caste-related issues on the IITB campus. The event was held on June 29 at 5:30 pm at LH101, IIT Bombay.
With more than 80 individuals attending the event, APPSC claimed that the open house event was a huge success. The crowd that gathered to attend the event included students, faculty and non-teaching staff. During the event, students and faculty members openly talked about their experiences of caste on campus. During the event, many issues of harassment due to the reservation, lack of representation in faculty and PhD, etc were also discussed, informed the student collective in a tweet.
According to APPSC, this is a first-of-its-kind event conducted by any IIT in the last 60 years. The students collective also called for similar events at other IITs. A tweet posted by the official account of the student cell reads, "SC/ST students cell of @iitbombay is conducting an open house on caste where students can come and express their experiences and concerns, and talk openly about caste on campus, the first event of this kind by any IIT in the last 60 years.
