Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with five institutes to promote knowledge creation and collaboration in Research, Innovation and Development (R&D). The five institutes are within 200 km of IIT Roorkee. These five selected academic institutes are Graphic Era (Deemed to be University), Dehradun; Swami Rama Himalayan University, Jolly Grant, Dehradun; Noida Institute of Engineering & Technology, Gr. Noida; National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand; College of Engineering, Roorkee (COER).
The MoU signing event was held at the Senate Hall of the institute in presence of heads of all respective institutes and was also attended online by Chairman, AICTE, Prof Anil D Sahasrabudhe and the Chairman board of governors (BOGs), IIT-Roorkee, BVR Mohan Reddy.
The scope of the partnership, which is being formulated on the occasion of IIT-R's 175th year celebration, is to promote Academic and Research cooperation and the Development viz., research collaboration, joint guidance of PhD students, PhD fellowships to faculty members, faculty visit to IIT Roorkee from partnering institutes, provision of research scholar visit, allow for joint proposals of funding to enable setting up research capability at the partner institutes, among others, the press release stated.
The initiative is keeping in view the detailed Project Report for setting up the National Research Foundation developed by the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC).
“Today IIT Roorkee is rated to be the number one research and innovation institute and ranks fifth in the institutes ranking of 2021 and ranks 400 internationally and is known to produce excellent researchers who contribute to nation-building. And this partnering of IIT Roorkee with five of the best institutes in and around Uttarakhand will facilitate the number of enrollments of students in the engineering program and will truly make our nation Aatma Nirbhar," said Reddy.
Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of AICTE, highlighted, "This partnership will further facilitate in catalysing better research and innovation and blossoming of start-ups. Additionally, this initiative is an opportunity for the partner institutes to compare and contrast with IIT Roorkee thereby uplifting themselves and bringing them at par with IITs."
