In the letter, Faizan’s mother mentioned that the authorities took no steps to find out his whereabouts. If timely steps were taken, his son may not have met this tragic end.

Faizan Ahmed's semi-decomposed body was found in his hostel room on October 14.

The mother of Faizan Ahmed, a third-year BTech student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, whose semi-decomposed body was found in his hostel room on October 14, has written a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan alleging that his son did not commit suicide, rather he was murdered.

The letter has been sent to the minster via email and post. A copy of the letter has also been sent to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier sent a letter to his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee requesting her to carry out a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of Faizan Ahmed, who belongs to Tinsukia in Assam.

Had no clue that he shifted his hostel: Mother

As per a report published in The Times of India, Rehana Ahmed, mother of Faizan, mentioned in the letter “the glaring negligence and total apathy of the IIT authorities did not have any clue that Faizan had shifted his hostel a month before his death”. She wrote, “The authorities could not show us any documentation regarding allotment of a single room to my son nor was I informed that he did not take several mid-semester examinations.”

In the letter, Faizan’s mother mentioned that the authorities took no steps to find out Faizan’s whereabouts or why he chose not to come out of his hostel room. She felt that if timely steps were taken, his son may not have met this tragic end.

She further wrote, “I humbly request you to ensure that the authorities of IIT Kharagpur are brought to book to do justice to my son and prevent recurrence of such tragic incidents.”
