All NEET PG 2021 candidates must be allowed in mop-up and stray vacancy round, said Indian Medical Association (IMA) to Centre.

IMA

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has requested the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to allow all NEET PG candidates to participate in the mop-up and stray vacancy round without cut-off restrictions.

These candidates have already completed their undergraduate courses and hence as per IMA, they fulfil the basic eligibility criteria. In its letter to the Health Minister, IMA highlighted that many seats remain vacant in prestigious government colleges in the basic and para-clinical subjects and while passing through a grave medical emergency during Covid -19 pandemic, the country cannot afford any vacancies in the medical field.

The letter added that as per the available data, many PG seats remain vacant every year due to insufficient candidates opting out for them.

The IMA letter says, "One must see that they have worked in the Covid-19 pandemic as interns, junior residents and other capacity and are registered medical graduates. Also, they are to undergo vigorous training and have to pass a final MD/MS exam before being awarded a degree. India needs a lot of specialist doctors and one must understand that no seat should remain vacant when aspiring candidates are waiting to take admission but could not due to eligibility bar," as reported by India Today.

"It is thus requested that the condition of cut-off be waived and admission be offered to all otherwise eligible candidates using NEET rankings. This can be considered as a one-time measure for this year considering the pandemic. It would be really criminal if all post-graduation seats are not filled even in an emergency situation. This is a humble request from the Indian Medical Association to increase the workforce of available doctors," the letter added.
