IIT Madras and IBM have invited applications from interested students for the free online course on Quantum Computing.

IIT Madras, IBM offer 4-week free online course on Quantum Computing

IIT Madras and IBM are jointly offering a 4-week free online course called “Introduction to Quantum Computing: Quantum Algorithms and Qiskit” for students.

The course syllabus includes an introduction to Quantum Computation, starting with basic concepts such as superposition and entanglement, to discussing the quantum circuit model of computation and basic Quantum algorithms that demonstrate the power of computing with quantum bits, as reported by Data Quest.

The course will offer hands-on sessions for each concept taught using Qiskit, a pythonic way of programming and the IBM Circuit Composer.

About the course

The course is open to students, researchers and faculty from computer science and physics, mathematics and chemistry departments. It will be conducted from July 25 to August 19, and the last date to enrol is August 1, 2022. It will be conducted by Dr Prabha Mandayam, Associate Professor, IIT Madras with a PhD in Quantum Computing from Caltech; Dr Anupama Ray, Advisory Research Scientist, IBM Quantum Ambassador and Qiskit Advocate, IBM Research with a PhD in Deep Learning from IIT Delhi; and Systems Dr Sheshashayee Raghunathan, Senior Engineer IBM Quantum Ambassador and Qiskit Advocate with a PhD in Quantum Computing from the University of Southern California. 

Interested students need to enrol on the NPTEL platform by clicking on the Join button on the official page using their Google, Facebook, Microsoft, or SWAYAM accounts. The participants must have knowledge of Basic Linear algebra.

Participants who wish to receive the certificate for the course will have to pay INR 1000 and take an examination to be conducted on September 25.
