The issue of alleged discrimination against reserved category students at the Jawaharlal Nehru University is not getting over even after the university administration issued a statement last week rejecting allegations.

The JNU Students Union has demanded generation of a grievance specific email such that affected candidates can send across their specific complaints to the University.

Last week some of the PhD candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD alleged that the panel deliberately gave them less marks in viva thus preventing them from getting admitted in the university. Reacting to these allegation, JNU issued a statement rejecting such allegations and stated that its admission process are transparent and all eligible candidates are called for interview.

JNUSU along with other students met the Deputy Registrar and Director of Admission and demanded for immediately generate a grievance specific email, and also demanded that the JNU administration once upon receiving the complaints, should set up an enquiry committee with representation of members from the marginalized sections along with the JNUSU representatives to look into the grievances and submit a report in a time bound manner.

JNU administration has also accepted to release the cut-off of written examination for UR/OBC/EWS. The administration also clarified that all candidates from the SC/ST/PWD who cleared qualifying marks as stated in the prospectus were called for viva-voce.

JNUSU in a statement said: “We seek a response that on what basis did Administration declare result and conduct viva-voce, when Final answer key from NTA was not released. Release the final list of selected candidates across programs publicly. The JNU Administration should specify the framework/parameters on which marking for vivavoce has been given.”

It has also demanded that the administration should release immediately the cut off list of written for all candidates. “Reduce weightage from 30% to 15%, implement Nafey Committee. • Re-instate Deprivation points for candidates in all PhD program,” it had demanded.

The JNU Administration accepted to release individual marks of written examination of all those candidates who didn’t clear the written and qualify for viva-voce which wasn’t available before.

The Administration has also accepted and generated a specific grievance helpdesk to take complaints from the candidates.

The Administration also accepted to release the cut-off of written examination for UR/OBC/EWS. The administration also clarified that all candidates from the SC/ST/PWD who cleared qualifying marks as stated in the prospectus were called for viva-voce. 4. The Administration has also released the final answer key on its website for JNUEE.
