KK Pant appointed new Director of IIT Roorkee
KK Pant, who replaced Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi as IIT Roorkee Director, was earlier the Petrotech (FIPI) Chair Professor and Dean Faculty at IIT Delhi.

KK Pant has been appointed as the new Director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. KK Pant from the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Delhi, was earlier the Petrotech (FIPI) Chair Professor and Dean Faculty at IIT Delhi. He also served as Adjunct faculty at University of Saskatchewan in Canada, Joint Faculty at CRDT IIT Delhi and Honorary Faculty at University of Queensland in Australia. He also headed the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Delhi, from 2018 to 2021.
He has worked on cutting edge and futuristic technologies of national and international importance such as coal to methanol conversion, e-waste and plastic management, hydrogen generation, CO2 capture and conversion, biomass valorisation, etc., using catalysis and reaction engineering. He has also been honoured twice with the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) award, besides several other honours such as CHEMCON distinguished speaker award, Herdilia Award by Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Pant did his BTech and MTech from IIT Kanpur in 1987 and 1989, respectively, and went on to complete his PhD from Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU) Kanpur. He has more than 30 years of academic and industrial research experience with 220 plus publications having 11,746 citations and numerous patents. Pant has replaced Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi, who joined IIT Roorkee as Director in 2016.
IIT Roorkee announced the appointment of KK Pant as the new director on Twitter. It wrote, “Delighted to share that Prof KK Pant, Department of Chemical Engineering, @iitdelhi has been appointed as the Director of @iitroorkee. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Prof Pant! I am sure #IITRoorkee will scale greater heights under his leadership.”
