As Shiksha reported earlier, the government is planning to develop AIIMS Delhi into a world-class medical university, in this regard a meeting was held yesterday by Lieutenant governor Anil Baijal and was attended by Director Dr Randeep Guleria and other top officials.

LG Delhi tweet reads, "Chaired the first meeting of the Apex Committee to facilitate approvals for the redevelopment of AIIMS, New Delhi into a world-class Medical University, along with CEO NITI Aayog, Chief Secretary, GNCTD, VC DDA @official_dda, Dr Randeep Guleria- Director AIIMS & other senior officials of concerned Departments/Agencies."

"The team from AIIMS presented the highlights of the proposed Master Plan and key approvals required to proceed ahead. After discussions it was decided to pursue clearances/NOCs required for the project from different Departments and Agencies simultaneously so as to save time. To facilitate the process, an officer from DDA and Delhi Government were designated for ensuring seamless inter-agency coordination. It was also agreed upon to meet fortnightly to review the status of approvals granted. My best wishes to the Project," said LG Delhi through another tweet.

AIIMS Delhi to optimise the available infrastructure

The plan involves vertical expansion and reorganising the land usage of AIIMS Delhi to optimise the available infrastructure, as reported by TOI.

As per sources, the plan is to consolidate patient care, research, teaching, administration and support services in areas in the East Ansari Nagar (main campus) and shift the residential facilities from here to the trauma centre extension (New Rajnagar) campus.

"The project will provide highly specialised state-of-the-art healthcare and an integrated 'One Campus' answer to all the investigative, physiotherapeutic, operative, rehabilitative and vocational needs of the patients," said an official.
