The newly established Uttarakhand Cell aims to facilitate regional development by promoting local products such as Badri cow ghee and branding Uttarakhand as a prominent identity.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur recently welcomed the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), for the inauguration of the Uttarakhand Cell on its campus. In an inspiring address, the Governor underscored the importance of willpower, self-control, and self-discipline as essential components for the success of India's youth.

Focus on Regional Development and Local Products

The newly established Uttarakhand Cell aims to facilitate regional development by promoting local products such as Badri cow ghee and branding Uttarakhand as a prominent identity. Through collaborations with institutions like GB Pant Agriculture University, the cell will concentrate on enhancing sectors such as agriculture, wellness, honey production, and spiritual tourism. The initiative seeks to empower local farmers and women while addressing logistical challenges in these sectors.

During the inauguration, three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with GB Pant University, Kumaun University, and Uttarakhand Technical University to bolster educational and developmental efforts in the region.

The Role of Youth in Economic Growth

In his speech, Governor Singh highlighted the crucial role of young minds in driving the Indian economy. He noted the existence of 116 unicorns in India as a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit of the youth. “It is the youth who are the growth engine for the Indian economy, leading to a vibrant startup ecosystem,” he stated, urging them to transition from job-seekers to job creators.

The Governor encouraged students to explore value addition in their entrepreneurial ventures, citing the high market price of Badri cow ghee at INR 67,000 per kilogram as a prime example of untapped opportunities. He stated, “These opportunities can be identified by questioning, as ‘a question is the mother of wisdom.’”

Vision for Uttarakhand’s Development

Emphasizing the need for integration and unity, the Governor expressed that the principles of "Divide and Rule" from the British era have hindered growth. He called for a focus on artificial intelligence alongside the pursuit of absolute intelligence through holistic approaches. “Our youth should target both growth and development,” he said, adding that prioritizing wellness, horticulture, and spiritual tourism could significantly enhance Uttarakhand's economy.
