Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur is at the forefront of fostering gender parity in traditionally male-dominated business classrooms. In a significant stride, the institute has achieved 42% female representation in its flagship courses for the academic years 2024-26, marking a notable increase from the previous year's 35%.
The 2024-26 cohort, recently inducted through a comprehensive three-day inauguration and orientation program, comprises 196 female students out of a total enrollment of 471 across Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Business Administration – Analytics (MBA – A) programs. Notably, the MBA – Analytics program leads this session with 75% female students, surpassing last year’s 69% representation.
Diverse Academic and Professional Backgrounds
The new batch underscores diversity not only in gender but also in academic and professional backgrounds. Among the students, 37% hail from engineering disciplines, 33% from commerce, 12% from science, and 6% from arts, with the remainder bringing diverse backgrounds such as medical and communication studies. The cohort collectively boasts an average work experience of 13 months.
Academic Excellence and Growth
Professor Abhradeep Maiti, Chairperson of Admissions, highlighted the success of IIM Kashipur in attracting future leaders and conducting the 2024 Common Admission Process (CAP 2024). Reflecting on the institute’s progress in bridging gender diversity gaps, he noted a significant rise from 11% female students in 2019 to 42% in the current batch.
Geographical and Academic Leadership
Geographical diversity is also robustly represented in the batch, with students hailing from 28 states across India, with Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh contributing the highest number of students, each accounting for 63 enrollments.
Professor Somnath Chakraborti, Director-in-Charge of IIM Kashipur, expressed pride in the institute’s rapid growth, achieving milestones in gender diversity, geographical representation, and academic collaborations within just 13 years of its establishment. He emphasized IIM Kashipur's ambition to rank among the top 10 IIMs in India through continuous efforts in these areas.
Future Prospects and Welcome
Beyond MBA and MBA Analytics, the institute welcomed 15 candidates into its doctoral program, including four females, highlighting its commitment to nurturing academic excellence across disciplines.
The inaugural program for the AY 2024-26 batches, spanning MBA, MBA Analytics, and PhD programs, commenced with an orientation session from June 27 to June 30, 2024. This session aimed to familiarize incoming students with both the academic rigor and the vibrant social fabric of IIM Kashipur.
