Dr. Tapan Kumar Panda, Director NMIMS, Hyderabad, said: “I thank all my partners for giving NMIMS this opportunity to contribute to human resource and skill development for the country’s agriculture sector. As India leapfrogs from an import reliant a few decades ago in agriculture to becoming self-reliant and then huge strides in the export of value-added products, there will be an enhanced and continuous need for skilled manpower. We seek to fill in this gap by creating a symbiotic relationship with all my partners in various spheres of academics, research, and training across all sectors.”
Agriculture sector ranks second toward contributing to state GDP (SGP). The share of agriculture in total employment has jumped to 39.4% whereas manufacturing has dropped to 7.3%. Unemployment rates in rural and urban areas are estimated to be 1.3% and 6.9%. The unskilled workforce in Agriculture is 85% v/s the global average of 44%.
As per a release issued by NMIMS, this industry-academia partnership will ensure consistent supply of high skilled workforce in the fast emerging agribusiness and agri tech sector in Telangana.
